What we do

Services built on
engineering discipline.

Every service Ironside provides starts the same way — we understand the full system before we touch a wire. Here's what that looks like in practice.

Panel & Power

The foundation everything runs on.

An undersized or aging panel is a safety risk and a performance ceiling. We assess your full load, design to where your home is going — not just where it is — and execute clean installs that pass inspection the first time.

Panel upgrades & replacements

200A and 400A service upgrades, full panel replacements, meter base work. Sized for your current load and your future additions — EV chargers, home additions, HVAC upgrades.

Circuit additions

Dedicated circuits for home offices, appliances, workshop equipment, or any high-draw load. Properly sized breakers, correct wire gauge, clean runs.

Whole-home surge protection

Point-of-entry surge protection installed at the panel — the most effective way to protect every device in your home from the grid fluctuations common in the Charlotte area.

Grounding & bonding upgrades

Proper grounding is the safety system your electrical system relies on. We correct deficiencies, add grounding electrodes, and bring systems up to current NEC standards.

EV Charger Installation

Charge overnight. Drive every day.

The Charlotte metro — especially Ballantyne and South Charlotte — has one of the highest EV adoption rates in the Southeast. Home charging is the right move. We make sure it's done correctly.

Level 2 home charger installation

Full 240V Level 2 EVSE installation — hardwired or NEMA 14-50 outlet. We handle the circuit design, wire run, breaker sizing, and final connection. Compatible with all major EV brands.

Panel capacity assessment

Before any charger install, we assess your panel's available capacity using NEC 220.82 load calculation standards. Most newer Charlotte-area homes can accommodate a charger without a panel upgrade — we'll tell you the truth either way.

Panel upgrades for EV readiness

If your panel needs upgrading to support a charger, we handle both in one project. No coordinating two contractors, no scheduling gaps.

Future-ready rough-in

Not ready for an EV yet but planning ahead? We can run conduit and wire now so the final install is a simple connection when you're ready. Smart planning saves money later.

Home Automation

Systems that work together — by design.

Most electricians install smart switches. Ironside designs smart systems. There's a difference between a Nest on the wall and an automation architecture that actually functions as one cohesive system.

Smart lighting systems

Lutron Caseta, Leviton Decora Smart, and other professional-grade smart lighting platforms — designed, wired, and configured correctly. Scene programming, scheduling, and app/voice control setup included.

Whole-home automation rough-in

Control4, Savant, and Z-Wave compatible structured wiring. Low-voltage rough-in for new construction or renovation projects — everything in the right place for your integrator to finish, or for us to complete end-to-end.

Smart thermostat wiring & integration

C-wire installation, multi-zone thermostat wiring, and system compatibility verification. We make sure your smart thermostat actually has what it needs to work correctly with your HVAC.

Smart panel integration

Span and Leviton Smart Panel installation and wiring — the next generation of home electrical management, with per-circuit monitoring and control from your phone.

Motorized shade & blind wiring

Low-voltage wiring for Lutron, Somfy, and other motorized window treatment systems. Integrated with lighting control for true scene-based automation.

Wiring & Rewiring

From the ground up. Or the ground back up.

New construction or a 1970s home that needs a full update — we approach every wiring project with the same discipline. Clean installs, documented runs, no shortcuts.

New construction wiring

Full rough-in and trim-out for new builds — working directly with builders and general contractors. Load calculations, panel sizing, and coordination with inspectors built into the process.

Full & partial home rewiring

Aging wiring systems that don't meet modern demands or code requirements. We assess, plan, and execute rewires with minimal disruption and full documentation of the completed system.

Aluminum wiring remediation

Homes built between 1965 and 1975 often have aluminum branch circuit wiring — a documented fire hazard at connection points. We perform proper remediation using CO/ALR devices and pigtailing methods approved by the CPSC.

Knob-and-tube replacement

Full replacement of knob-and-tube wiring with modern NM cable and proper grounding. Required by most homeowner's insurers and essential for older home safety.

Outlets, Fixtures & Lighting

The details that define the space.

No job is too small to do right. Whether it's a ceiling fan or a full outdoor lighting system, every fixture we touch is installed cleanly, safely, and to code.

GFCI & AFCI upgrades

Ground fault and arc fault protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoors, and bedrooms — required by current NEC code and essential for home safety. We bring older homes up to current standards.

Recessed & under-cabinet lighting

Cans, trims, retrofit LED conversions, and under-cabinet strip lighting — laid out with intention, not just wherever is easiest. Lighting affects how a room feels. We take it seriously.

Ceiling fans & fixtures

Installation, replacement, and brace box upgrades for attic-less ceilings. Fan-rated boxes where required. Dimmer compatibility verified before you buy the fixture.

Outdoor & security lighting

Landscape lighting, soffit lights, security floodlights, post lights, and pathway systems. Weatherproof installations, GFCI-protected circuits, and runs that won't become a maintenance headache.

USB & outlet upgrades

USB-A and USB-C outlet upgrades, dedicated home office circuits, outlet additions. Practical upgrades that make the home work for how people actually use it.

Safety, Code & Specialty

When the stakes are higher than a light switch.

Some electrical work requires more than just a licensed electrician — it requires someone who understands system design, load management, and how everything connects. That's what 18 years of controls engineering looks like in residential work.

Electrical inspections

Pre-sale inspections, post-purchase assessments, and general system evaluations. We document what we find, explain it in plain language, and prioritize by urgency — not by what generates the most work for us.

Code violation corrections

Failed inspections, insurance requirements, municipal citations — we identify the violations, correct them properly, and make sure the work passes reinspection.

Generator hookups & transfer switches

Whole-home and critical-load transfer switch installation for standby and portable generators. Properly sized, correctly wired, and safe — no backfeed risk, no code violations.

Hot tub & spa wiring

240V dedicated circuits, disconnect boxes, and bonding requirements for hot tubs, spas, and swim spas. We know the NEC Article 680 requirements and apply them correctly.

Dedicated appliance circuits

Electric ranges, dryers, air compressors, EV chargers, and any high-draw appliance that needs its own circuit. Properly sized and run from the panel — not shared with other loads.

Smoke & CO detector wiring

Hardwired, interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide detector systems — the only type that meets current code in new construction and major renovations. Battery backup included.
